Dehradun, The sacred festival of Guru Purnima was celebrated with profound devotion, spiritual fervour and joyous enthusiasm at Sai Jyoti Centre, 58 D.L. Road, Dehradun, on Wednesday. The entire campus resonated with Vedic chants, devotional hymns and prayers as hundreds of Sai devotees gathered to offer their gratitude and reverence to the Guru—the eternal guide who dispels the darkness of ignorance and illuminates the path of wisdom.
The celebration commenced in the early morning with Omkar, Suprabhatam and Nagar Sankirtan, beginning from Sai Jyoti Centre. Devotees participated wholeheartedly in the spiritual procession, chanting the divine name of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and singing devotional hymns, creating an atmosphere filled with peace, faith and divine bliss.
The spiritual proceedings continued with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the performance of a Vedic Havan (sacred fire ritual). Special prayers were offered for universal peace, harmony, prosperity and the welfare of humanity. Devotees prayed for a world rooted in love, compassion and righteousness.
A highlight of the celebration was the Laksharchana performed with the chanting of 108 sacred mantras. Dr. Lata Singhal led the Vedic chanting and Sai Gayatri, filling the entire venue with spiritual vibrations. The rhythmic recitation of the sacred scriptures created an atmosphere of deep meditation and divine consciousness.
The devotional session featured soulful Bhajans in praise of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The congregation immersed itself in devotional singing, expressing love and gratitude to the Divine. Rajmati Rai presented an inspiring poem dedicated to the glory of the Guru, touching the hearts of the devotees.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by the Bal Vikas children under the guidance of Neema Joshi and Shubha Dubey. Through music, dance and value-based performances, the children beautifully reflected the ideals of the Guru-disciple tradition, Indian culture and universal human values.
Addressing the gathering, Ram Avtar Gupta spoke about the timeless significance of Guru Purnima, stating that the Guru is not merely a teacher but the divine force that transforms human life through wisdom, character and spiritual awakening.
In his address, Neeraj Thapa elaborated on the importance of selfless service. He said that service strengthens love, unity and harmony in society. Helping those in need brings inner peace, happiness and fulfillment, making human life meaningful. He emphasized that serving humanity is the truest form of worship.
Delivering an inspiring message, Deepak Nautiyal encouraged everyone, especially the youth, to remain optimistic in the face of challenges. He remarked that failures are only pauses, not full stops. Every challenge makes a person stronger, and real transformation begins when one stops limiting oneself. He urged everyone to believe in their abilities and continue progressing with determination, patience and positivity.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. O. P. Gupta, who spoke eloquently on the spiritual significance of Guru Purnima. He said that the Guru removes the darkness of ignorance by lighting the lamp of wisdom and guides humanity toward truth, righteousness and self-realization.
He observed that just as the full moon illuminates the night with its cool and soothing light, the Sadguru dispels the darkness within the human mind through divine knowledge. He called upon everyone to cultivate faith, gratitude and humility in their spiritual journey.
Blessing the gathering, Dr. Gupta prayed that Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba may bestow upon all devotees wisdom, discrimination, true knowledge, good health, peace, prosperity and success, and that every family may remain blessed with divine grace and happiness.
Concluding the programme, District President Sajjan Singh Thapa expressed heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, volunteers, devotees and organizing committee members for making the celebration a grand success. Extending Guru Purnima greetings, he emphasized that the true tribute to the Guru lies in practicing love, compassion, discipline and selfless service in everyday life.
The celebrations concluded with Mangala Aarti followed by the distribution of Prasadam. On the sacred occasion of Guru Purnima, Narayan Seva was also undertaken at the Leprosy Ashram, Nalapani, as well as the Mohini Road slum settlement and Lohar Basti, where food and essential items were distributed to the underprivileged, reinforcing Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s message of “Love All, Serve All” and “Help Ever, Hurt Never.”
Among those present were Narmaya Rai, Sapna Thapa, Meera Chhetri, Kusum Sharma, along with a large number of Sai devotees, Bal Vikas students, women volunteers and distinguished guests.
The programme concluded with prayers for universal peace, harmony and the welfare of all beings, reaffirming the eternal message of Guru Purnima that the Guru is the guiding light leading humanity from darkness to light, from ignorance to wisdom, and from self-centeredness to selfless service.
